One of my favorite ways to listen to my Audiobook as a mom; taking my son on a stroll

One of the things I miss most about my pre-mom life is being able to sit down and read for hours without interruption. Back then, I could curl up on the couch with a blanket, a cup of coffee, and a good book, completely disappearing into another world for an entire afternoon. These days, as the mom of an active little boy, uninterrupted reading time is much harder to come by.

The Magic of Combining Walks and Audiobooks

Motherhood has taught me that sometimes you have to adapt the things you love rather than give them up entirely.

That's exactly how audiobooks became one of my favorite parts of our daily stroller walks.

Most days, my son and I head outside for a stroll around our neighborhood. Some days it's in the morning, other days it's after dinner when the Florida heat finally starts to ease up. I fill my water bottle, grab my headphones, settle him into his stroller, and press play on whatever audiobook I'm currently obsessed with.

Suddenly, I'm doing two things I genuinely love at the same time.

I'm spending quality time with my son while also getting lost in a good story.

It's become one of my favorite little motherhood hacks.

Reminders that you can't control everything

As much as I still love physical books and my Kindle, audiobooks allow me to keep reading during a season of life that doesn't always leave much room for sitting still. Instead of waiting for the perfect quiet moment that may never come, I've found a way to fit reading into my everyday routine.

Some of my favorite walks have happened while listening to fantasy romances, sports romances, or a suspenseful thriller that keeps me wanting to take just one more lap around the neighborhood.

There have even been days when my son falls asleep in the stroller and I find myself secretly hoping he stays asleep a little longer because I'm not ready to stop listening.

Beyond the books, these walks have become a reset button for me.

The importance of staying active and a change of environment

Fresh air helps clear my mind. The movement helps me feel energized. My son gets to experience new sights, sounds, and surroundings. And I get a little piece of time that feels like it's just for me.

Motherhood can sometimes feel like you're constantly giving pieces of yourself away throughout the day. Between meals, diapers, naps, laundry, and everything else, it's easy to forget about the hobbies and interests that make you feel like you.

For me, reading has always been one of those things.

That's why these stroller walks mean so much more than simply getting outside. They're a way for me to stay connected to something I love while still being fully present with my son.

It's not the same as spending an entire afternoon reading on the couch, but in many ways, it's become something even better.

It's a season of life where two of my favorite things, motherhood and books, get to exist together.

And honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way.

What are your favorite ways to enjoy hobbies after becoming a parent? I'd love to hear how you've adapted the things you love during this season of life.
